... And that's what makes these image-based puzzles interesting!

The brain is a pattern recognizing machine, one consequence of which is that it tends to interpolate patterns any and every which way it can! Obviously this is the basis for optical (& cognitive) illusions.

In the case of this puzzle, I think every clue has been solved and interpreted (almost) correctly by at least one person. And yet, the totality is still elusive.

I think @surekhap went for the high signal clues.

Gauri is the closest to a full solution. I guess she's out at brunch?

PS: I would not have predicted that Erle Stanley Gardner would be a stumbling block! :rotfl

I am not at all belonging to this cadre of genius neurites at all...their way of interpretation is way to high from mine...
Anyhow landed an answer which fits some, don't know the connection about to other pictures, and I am crossing fingers for the answer...
I am always learning names of people I have no clue so far in life...maybe I have to think whether I had any colleagues by that namethinkingsmiley

    Answer to puzzle #2679

MAHARANI GAYATRI DEVI (Member of Parliament, Maharani Consort of Jaipur, Princess of Cooch Behar)

    mgd.jpg

Images numbered top to bottom, left to right -

Images #3 and #4: Printed chiffon and pearls were Gayatri Devi's signature style. She was a style icon known for her tasteful and elegant chiffon sarees usually paired with a string of pearls. For me personally, any mention of pearls and chiffon brings up an instant association with her.

Image #1: Aishwarya Rai as Jodha Bai, another princess and queen frequently associated with the Rajputana. Keywords to the answer would have been queen, princess or Rajput.

Image #2: Indian Parliament building indicating that the person was a part of the government. Maharani Gayatri Devi was a Member of Parliament from the Jaipur constituency which she won by the world's largest landslide earning her a place in the Guinness Book of World Records.

Image #5: This one was not straightforward but not key to finding the answer. General V K Singh, former Chief of the Indian Army. Probably the only military personality to have caught the attention of the Indian public in recent times due his numerous controversies. General Singh belonged to the Rajput Regiment which was the primary clue I was alluding to. There are secondary connections but they weren't material to finding the answer. I think many of you did not ascribe much importance to the General's regiment, however as an army kid, when we come across a military person, the first thing that one associates with them is the corps that they are commissioned into. Goes to show how our thinking is affected by our backgrounds. :)

Image #6: Cover of Vogue with Princess Diana. This was a dual clue with references to royalty and also to the fact that Gayatri Devi was featured by Vogue in the 1960s as one of the most beautiful women in the world.

Image #7: The insignia of the Rajputana Rifles, another corps of the Indian Army. It is the oldest regiment of the Indian army and one of the most highly decorated. The clue was another reference to the Rajputana, or Rajasthan and the princely states.

Gauri is choking on her brunch trying to figure out what Mr Gardner has to do with astronomy and the 8000 line wisdom sutra! :rotfl

    @sokanasanah

I am hoping I don't have to tell another wandering story....
If I start looking at the interpretations of all the ILs I am like getting very unsure..
But I am done, no more wanderings at all...either right or wrong will await your answer...

Aaah, Hastings mon ami, you see but you do not observe!

You have it already. You have the keywords. Whence the blindness? I intended it to be a little tricky, but not this tricky!!

I have an announcement to make, unrelated to the thread:

I notice that my IL pages have started displaying ads for Maserati.
    On Reddit, it's Lamborghini.

Somewhere in the dark, dim recesses of the omniscient interwebs, I have joined the one-percent!

Do remind the peasants to address me with due respect henceforth.
