Thanks to @Gauri03 and @Rihana's direct clues, finally I got it. But this puzzle truly humbled me because the answer is the first one I pursued vigorously. Somehow, I have lost track and went to Connecticut and then towards Shankar Pillai and CBT. Viswa

Founder of Amar Chitra Katha was Anant Pai Calvin & Hobbes comics (also a nod to avatar of OP ) Thanks to all for participating. Trivial puzzle: Images point to a famous person with a connection to India. The color pic is from the movie Umrao Jaan.
Scientific answer? Bought new in India and lugged them here in a suitcase. Though you can buy them online these days. I had posted this image sometime back, but the puzzle brought it up again. That's about half of my current ACK collection. Made my parents bring it over from India. I'm not a big fan of the contemporary series - Kalpana Chawla, etc. etc. Love the old mythology and folktale series, especially the ones with multiple short stories that have a lesson, like the Panchtantra, Jataka tales and Buddhist fables.
In #2216, I understood thermometer, Queen Elizabeth and Umrao Jaan. What is the third image? I just want to make sure my understanding is correct. Viswa
