    Yup.

I didn't know that the actual Bharat Ratna is a Peepal leaf with sun burst design on one side and the Emblem of India on the other side, before this puzzle.
Also.. this Act(it was in the news last year because of a controversy regarding the Emblem of Telangana)

I was going to make up a puzzle on Bismillah Khan and somehow that morphed into this..

To all my fellow neurites and lurkers alike - Wish you all a very Happy Vasant Panchami!

Not very well known around the country, Vasant Panchami is a huge deal where I'm from. :) It's my favorite of all Indian festivals. It signifies the onset of spring in Northern India. The fields are lush with mustard blossoms, the mango trees begin to flower (called manjari), yellow daisies start popping up in nooks and crannies, the bitter North-Western winter starts receding, and the air is crisp and redolent. It is a time of hope and new possibilities.

I remember starting the day with sounds of Yaa kundendu tushaar haar dhavala.....getting decked up in lovely yellow salwar kameezs, enjoying besan laddoos, sweet saffron rice and tehri (yellow veg pulao), flying kites, and, of course, the mandatory Saraswati puja! It was a great day to skip studies because kaise padhein? Kitabein toh puja pe rakhin hain! :)

I hope this is the beginning of a beautiful spring in all your lives. It is a day to celebrate learning and what better place than this thread! Take some time today. Go to a park. Enjoy the sights and sounds of nature and read a good book!

    Have a great Basant!

Basant Best Wishes to you too!

Actually, the spring / harvest celebration may fluctuate a bit ('Thai Pongal' in southern India), but the Saraswati puja is celebrated all over, complete with transiently demobilized books in their fresh brown-paper covers. I woke up to Lata Mangeshkar & 'Yakundendu ...' as well! My favorite part was of course the blessing of the Mahindra lorries and autos and taxi-cabs, in a seamless continuity. I have always been waiting for some manipulative ad agency to turn the occasion into the day to have your vehicle check-up and oil-change!

Lurker reporting! Look what brought me here, that lovely write up with the pictures, the mention of food, spring, kites and happiness. It does feel like spring what with that spread of yellows. How beautiful! Happy Vasant Panchami. Hopefully those books kept away in puja today will help me get more active going forward. I mean to be here often, but it seems easier catching up and going thorough this mind boggling post, for me certainly.

Happy Vasant Panchami to you Gauri and thank you.
