You know I actually did not edit 40+ posts (in new avatar) because of this edit pestilence. And then when I had to edit one post because I was addressing to Cheeniya and the typo was too glaring , bingo! (joy of tears in my eyes).

Hmm, what if "Aria" is still plagued, no paltering, dump her! Welcome Rome-nia (if the edit is fixed only for new creations)

Moreover with all my antics I know more about the newLite quirks than anyone else in this forum, challenge. I should periodically change my Id henceforth if not names then atleast revisions , here comes Aria - II, III, and bring you the flavour of the month Aria The Creepy, Aria The Crafty, Aria the Ingénue, Aria The Same

    Guys,

Are you checking the strides of overdrive in digitalizing libraries?
I hate myself for taking that decision, ARE YOU SURE nary US of A, shoot to transpontine. Catching up here but voila! Most of the libraries in US (public, non-profit and online consortium) are offering kindle downloads as well.

    Answer to duality puzzle -

    Fundamental to matter,
I am the king of chemistry,
The mover of the modern world,

    you can't deny my electricity,
Am I this? or am I that?
    I confound with my duality,
    But I'm not that complicated,
    simply ask De Broglie!

The answer to the rhyme is the Electron. I hope the clues make sense once you know that. The electron is an elementary subatomic particle, and is the basis of all chemistry; movement of electronic charge creates electricity; like all matter it is both a particle and a wave, hence the duality. De Broglie, in his 1924 PhD thesis, proposed this dual nature of electrons, i.e., having both wave-like and particle-like properties.

The answers to the puzzle are the father and son duo -

J.J. Thomson - credited with the discovery and identification of the electron
G.P. Thomson - recognized for his discovery with Clinton Davisson of the wave properties of the electron

Both won the physics Nobel for their respective contributions. Imagine that! Father and son - two Nobels - both connected with the same particle!

The image was a no-brainer, and as Aria pointed out, made the puzzle rather trivial.

What does this mean? This is tougher than the puzzle for me.

TV -> the cathode ray tube* that the Thomsons, pere et fils, used to fiddle with electrons.

The water thing is a convoluted chemistry geek reference to yet another Thomson. Thomas Thomson was the first to draw 'molecular structures' including 'H2O', based on Dalton's theory, except that Dalton thought it was HO. These molecular bonds are essentially electron interactions.
    Never mind.:hide:

    PS:
Those old, boxy TVs and computer monitors are essentially CRTs (i.e. Cathode Ray Tubes. This was like way back in the 1990s ... not like them new fangled plasma/LCD doodads that you young whippersnappers use these days. The images are generated by bombarding electrons on a phosphor coating on the screen. A cathode ray is just a stream of electrons.

What in the name of Babette's feast is pere et fils, uff! This is tougher than the explanation to me. From Simon Schama to Ivan Turgenev, eh? ;-)

Gauri, when I read the puzzle, I was like there is more string theorizing to this rhyme than plain electron , hence the facile descriptive :biggrin2:

Since no one has volunteered the first puzzle for 2015, I, ahem , as usual brave the volley of quizzical looks, objections or even voila! the answers..

What is depicted in the below pictures. Pic#1 and Pic#2 form a pair , similarly Pic#3 and Pic#4 form another pair to uncover the answer in different paths.

    Bonus Clue

When the Battle Cry is spoken,
And the Voice of War is heard,
    The soldiers of the Allies,
    To battlefields do move.

    The enemy is silent,
As if waiting for the sun,
Then they hear that awesome sound,
    The booming of the Guns.

    [...]

    The Allies are victorious,
The enemy is on the run,
Once again they have been beaten
By the Glory of the Guns.

    - Glory of the Guns poem.
