PARAYAN 2, WEEK 04, UNDERSTANDING SAISATCHARITRA


1. What did Baba do when he suffered from a severe attack of Asthma? What does the incident indicate?


When Baba suffered from a sever asthma attack,Baba decided to take his atma(soul) out of his body and into samadhi. He instructed Mhalasapti to protect His body for 3 days.After keeping all the devotees under tension for 3 days,Baba came back as promised! Of course,Baba’s intent was to show everyone that He is not constrained by a mere mortal body,the ‘atma’ or soul is immortal.Baba is omnipresent ,His presence is not limited or restricted to his physical form.HE is always with us!




2. Who was the devotee who accepted Sannyas by Baba’s blessing? What was Baba’s reply to his doubts and restlessness?


Babusaheb Jog used to perform the daily Arti ceremony in the masjid and also used to read Jnaneshwari and Eknath Bhagwat to devotees.Still he used to feel restless ,as if something was missing. When he asked Baba’s help,Baba advised him that when the fruits of his karma were realised,he would be able to renounce worldly attachments and accept Sanyaasa,with a peaceful mind. This is exactly what happened in due course of time.
3. What were the Baba’s Nectar-like words, as mentioned in this chapter?


Baba’s nectar like words or gems from this chapter are -"He who loves Me most, always sees Me. The whole world is desolate to him without Me, he tells no stories but Mine. He ceaselessly meditates upon Me and always chants My name. I feel indebted to him who surrenders himself completely to Me and ever remembers Me. I shall repay his debt by giving him salvation (self-realization). I am dependent on him who thinks and hungers after Me and who does not eat anything without first offering it to Me. He who thus comes to Me, becomes one with Me, just as a river gets to the sea and becomes merged (one) with it. So leaving out pride and egoism and with no trace of them, you should surrender yourself to Me Who am seated in your heart."

Whenever I read this chapter,I get saddened by the description of Baba's passing on. Then I come to the part which talks about Baba's 3-day vacation from the mortal coils,and how Baba makes everyone realise the permanence and the importance of the soul...and I feel so happy! None of us have seen Baba,but do we not feel Him all around us,in every soul that breathes? Is it only the Sai temple which permeates with His presence?No,His presence is like a fragrance which envelops me all the time!

May Sai's grace be always with us! Jai Sai Ram!

1. What did Baba do when he suffered from a severe attack of Asthma? What does the incident indicate?
On a Margashirsha Pournima (Full moon) day, Baba suffered from a severe attack of asthma. To get rid of it Baba decided to take His prana high up and go into samadhi. Baba fell down at about 10 P.M. His breathing stopped, as well as His pulse. With Baba's body on his lap Mahalsapati sat full three days guarding it. After three days passed, Baba showed signs of life at 3 A.M. His breathing commenced, the abdomen began to move. His eyes opened and stretching His limbs, Baba returned to consciousness (life) again.

This incident shows Baba is immortal.The pure Being, Consciousness or Brahma, the Ruler and Controller of the senses and mind is the thing SAI.This pervades all things in the universe and there is no space without it.

2. Who was the devotee who accepted Sannyas by Baba’s blessing? What was Baba’s reply to his doubts and restlessness?
Sakharam Hari alias Bapusaheb Jog was the uncle of the famous Varkari Vishnubuva Jog of Poona.
Baba replied to his doubts and restlessness - "In due time your bad actions (their fruit or result) will be destroyed, your merits and demerits will be reduced to ashes, and I shall consider you blessed, when you will renounce all attachments, conquer lust and palate, and getting rid of all impediments, serve God whole-heartedly and resort to the begging bowl (accept sannyas)." After some time, Baba's words came true. His wife predeceased him and as he had no other attachment, he became free and accepted sannyas before his death and realized the goal of his life.

3. What were the Baba’s Nectar-like words, as mentioned in this chapter?
He who loves Me most, always sees Me
The whole world is desolate to him without Me, he tells no stories but Mine.
He ceaselessly meditates upon Me and always chants My name.
I feel indebted to him who surrenders himself completely to Me and ever remembers Me

Dear Sister,I have been troubled by an issue .I want to help a friend in deep trouble but I don't know how I could help .I tried couple of sources but they didn't work.I became so restless as Iam unable to offer my help.This friend of mine was so affectionate and would not expect any thing in return.She is an old friend ,still we are in touch.
Iam grateful to Baba that he understood my problem and hope he would give me some ideas to help my sweet friend .She always helped everyone and every one deserted her now when she needed help.

1. What is the need of Guru in ones life according to baba

2. Who said these words ……”Relying on your own cleverness, you missed your
way. A guide is always necessary to show us the right way in small or great
matters. No quest can be successfully carried out on an empty stomach. Unless
God wills it, no one meets us on the way. Do not discard offers of food. A served
dish should not be thrust away. Offers of bread and food should be regarded as
auspicious signs of success.” …

First of all I want to apologize for the late update in this thread as I’m very much tied up with certain issues at personal front and also because am travelling since end of dec2013, with very limited accessibility to internet .
I’m so much involved with the parayan group that I don’t want to be out of this parayana group…with baba blessings I managed to get limited internet accessibility from second week of 2014 group parayan and able to participate every week without fail. Tho I made a note of this thread from sai sakthi sister’s post in 2014 year long parayan….due to above said reasons I could go through this thread & participate in this. I want to make a note of this to sai sakthi sister through mail or in this thread itself but I couldnot do it either due to the same reasons I mentioned . So I left everything to baba’s wish .When I saw I was nominated for week 05 I was hesitant if I can I do or not ……prayed baba to guide me …..i took this as Baba will & He will make it possible anyways….He made it possible again .Thankyou Baba for being with me always.

I am very sorry for replying late.
1. What did Baba do when he suffered from a severe attack of Asthma? What does the incident indicate?
To get rid of the severe asthma attack, he decided to take his prana up and move into samadhi form. He also said to Mahalasapti to protect his body for three days. If he returns, then it is fine. Else, Baba said to bury his body in open land and fix two flags there as a mark. Then baba fell down, his breath and pulse stopped. Mhalasapti kept baba's body on his lap for three days. Baba showed signs of life after three days. Baba returned to life again.
This incident indicates that The body, composed of five elements is perishable and temporary, but the self within is absolute reality which is immortal and permanent. Our Sai Bhagvan is immortal and continues to reside in all living and non living forms.

Sakharam Hari alias Bapusaheb Jog was the devotee who accepted Sanyas by baba's blessing.

After serving Baba many years, he asked Baba, why his mind is not calm,composed and how is contacts with Saints has not improved him and when he would be blessed. To this Baba replied, " In due time your bad actions will be destroyed, merits and demerits will be reduced to ashes and I shall consider you blessed when you will get rid of all attachments and accept sanyas". Later his wife passed away and he had no attachments and accepted sanyas and realized the goal of his life.Bab's words came true.
