INGREDIENTS: Oats - 2cup cumin seed - 1/4 tsp mustard seed - 1/4 tsp chickpea dal - 1/4 tsp urad dal - 1/4 tsp green chilli - 1 big(or as per the hot you need) big onion 1/2 tomato - 1 carrot - 1(grated) beans - 4 to 5 (cut into fine pieces) garam masala(or anyother masala) a pinch dhania powder 1/4 tsp red chilli powder 1/4 tsp (optional) turmeric peas- 1/2 cup(boil,if you are using frozen add it straight) water - 1 3/4 cup corriander salt oil 1tbsp PREPARATION: fry the oats in a kadai without oil till it turns little brown and keep aside in a kadai add oil,mustard seed,when it splutters add urad dhal,chickpea dal,cumin,chilli when it turn brown add onion,and fry till golden brown add tomato,carrot,beans and fry for 2,3 min till the raw smell goes add chilli powder,garam masala powder,turmeric,dhaniya, salt and fry for 2,3 min add peas add water and let it boil (like other upmas) Now add oats and close the lid for 5min add coriander and serve with chutney
My long thinking dish, U need oats in powderd form like rava....if so where can i get in USA, from US groceries/ Indian grocery shops? Thx for posting...
Thanks Mehana for the first FB..i use "old fashioned whole grain oats" for upma (Quaker)..thicker than other oats(normal breakfast oats)..you can get it from Walmart(cheap),costco(they have only big box but its useful if you prepar it frequently, cheaper than walmart),you can find it in other US grocery shopes too..they have in Albertsons..(Albertsons brand oats also good)
