Plums Rasam - sweet & sour plums make delicious rasam !

    Plums - 5, 6 chopped

    Cooked dhal - 2 tbsp

    Salt, hing

Fry in ½ tsp ghee & powder:

    Dhaniya - 1 ½ tsp

    Gram dhal - ½ tsp

    Red chillies - 2, 3

    Pepper - ½ tsp

    Jeera - ½ tsp

    To temper:

    Ghee - ½ tsp

    Mustard seeds - 1 tsp

    Curry leaves - few

To garnish - chopped coriander leaves

Boil plums in minimum water with haldi.

Reserve some to be added & liquidize the rest.

Add powder, salt, dhal water & hing.

    Simmer to boiling point.

    Add reserved plums & temper.

If the plums are not sour & only sweet, this rasam will not be very tasty.

Add little lime juice to taste, if preferred.

    Dear Chitvish,

For the first time entering this forum, on seeing the name of Rasams... I see various types of rasams... I always chrish and enjoy drinking rasam.... My periamma used to do a wonderful kandathippili rasam... I love that... it is yummy, yummy... Though Shan tries that, she couldnt do as good as my periamma...

I searched though out this thread and atlast found your recipie... Thanks... Will try myself and see, how it works.... As my friend is going to Chennai for Diwali and will be back by mid Nov, i have asked him to get the ingrediants...

Pray for me as it should come good.... as I love it...

    Dear Veda,
    Welcome to this sub-forum !:tongue
Does rasam attract men, I wonder ! TDU came here & now, you. But I bet, Sri & VR will not !
If you had said, that Shan makes rasam as good as your periamma, I might not have believed. I am yet to see a man who thinks his wife cooks as good as his amma or periamma etc !
Do follow the recipe exactly - I guarantee you, excellent results ! It will be the perfect "aluppu rasam", we all need often !
    Love,
    Chithra.

    Dear Chitvish,

I dont know about others... But I love rasam, any type other than the famous, cheera rasam.... I feel, rasam is better than most of the soups.... Shan does good lemon rasam than my mom... But other things... No comments, though she is a good cook, I have to give her the credit for my plumpiness...

I dont mind one more short visit to Chennai for a good treat of rasams......:biggrin2:.

    Dear Veda,
Me & V are great rasam fans as well !
I must drink a cup of rasam definitely, alomg with lunch - it fills up & cut down a little on the rice intake also !
Welcome to my house also for a "change of rasam " !
    Love,
    Chithra.
How can you not like rice with jeera rasam & chutta appalam?
