    Early Morning Prayer

When you wake up in the morning, turn on to your right side before sitting up. After sitting up, hold both palms before your eyes, and chant the following mantra:

    Karagre Vasate Lakshmi Karmadhye Saraswati
    Karmule Tu Govindaha Prabhaate Karadarshanam

    Sanskrit to English Word Meaning
Karagre-on the tip of your fingers; vasate- dwells; Lakshmi- the Goddess of Prosperity, Lakshmi; karamule- on the base of your hands; Saraswathi- the Goddess of Knowledge Saraswathi; karamadhye- in the middle of your hands; tu-whereas; Govindah-the Lord Govindah; prabhate-in the morning; karadarshanam-look at your palm.

    Translation
On the tip of your fingers is Goddess Lakshmi; on the base of your fingers is Goddess Sarasvati; in the middle of your fingers is Lord Govinda. In this manner, look at your palm

    Brief Explanation
This is a Morning Prayer called “karadarshana”. One begins the day with this prayer. ‘kara” means the palm of the hand and it stands for the five karmendriyas, or the organs of action. While looking at the palm, one invokes the Lord in the form of various deities, thus sanctifying all the actions that will be done during the day. By acknowledging the Lord as the giver of the capacity to perform actions and as the giver of the fruits of those actions, one sanctifies the actions. Thus, one prays in the morning to reinforce the attitude that all actions are performed as a service to the Lord.

    Vedanta.....

    Dear Chitra,

Yet another thread to interact. I was myself wanting to discuss with you about the Vedanta classes you said that you attend. What exactly do you do there....is it a discussion on religious , spiritual thoughts as in The Books or only learning and reciting slokams and their meaning.
Can you share with us your experience in this line also. We are left out of suc things here and i would be happy to get enlightened and pass the knowledge to our youngsters here also!
    Thanks in advance,
    regards

    Pardon mistakes

This is a very important and a necessary thread as all of us need this for our spiritual well being which in turn ensures our quality of life. Thanks IL!

The following two slokas are good to say at the end of the day. I also chant them after reading Sahasranamams or other long winding recitations because one inadvertantly makes some pronunciation mistakes. With this, you beg for the Almighty's forgivenss for all the trespasses.

Kara Charana Kritham Vaak Kaayajam Karmajam Vaa
Sravana Nayanajam Vaa Maanasam Vaa Aparadham
    Vihitham Avihitham Vaa Sarvametat Kshamasva
Jaya Jaya Karunabdhe Sri Maha Deva Shambho

    Kayena vacha Manasendriyaiva
    Budhyatmana Va Prakrute Swabhavat
    Karomi Yadyath sakalam Parasmai
    Narayanayethi Samarpayami

    Tamil slogams please

    Hello Friends,

Good to know so many slogams shared here.

I have a request...can some of you share tamil slogams too?

Those will be easy to understand and recite for people like me. Also, it is easy to teach kids.

    Thank you,

    Malar
