    Hi Friends,

I would like to share with you the recipe for semiya dosa which I had learnt from my aunt several years ago. It tastes yummy even without a side dish.

    Ingredients-

    Semiya - 1 Cup
    Rice flour - 1/2 cup
    Sour curd - 1/2 cup
    Ginger minced - 1 tsp
Green chillies minced - 1 tsp
    Onions - 1 (finely chopped)
    Curry leaves - finely chopped
Coriander leaves (optional) - finely chopped
    Salt - to taste
    Chilli powder - to taste
    Hing - a pinch

    Procedure-

    1. In a bowl, add all the ingredients.
    2. Add enough water to get desired consistency.
    3. Let the mixture stand for 30 minutes.
    4. Heat a tava and pour a laddle full of the batter from outward to inward fashion like we pour for wheat dosa. Put some oil around the dosa.
    5. Once the dosa has cooked, turn over and cook till done.
    6. Hot and yummy semiya dosa is ready to be served.

Tip - Prepare the dosas in medium to low flame. This way the dosa gets cooked well without getting burnt.

    PS-
You can vary the amount of onions, chillies based on your taste.

    Hi Ramya,

Thank you. Do try it out. I'm sure you would fall for it as I did some 10 years back. :D

Sour curd gives a very good taste to the dosa like the normal fermented dosa. What you could probably try doing is- keep the curd out of the fridge for a day or two. The curd would definitely turn sour unless its a cold climate. If this still does not work, you could probably squeeze in a half lemon. But I do not know how the taste would turn out. :D Its just my thought. :)

    Cheers,
    Pavitra.

    Hi Pavithra,
Your recipe looks little different. Will try it. Would like to know can i use buttermilk or it should be only curds as you have mentioned.

    Hi Meenakshi,

You can use buttermilk but ensure its sour. :) You can then probably skip the water to be added. Just check the consistency and play around with the rice flour. :D
